I know I might have mentioned this topic in the past, but I feel it may be worth mentioning again.

Is it worth a shot or just a total waste of time and money to send a hard copy of your resume to a company blindly, with the hope a position is currently available.

A few months ago I called a medium sized company and was given the name of the proper person to mailed or fax my resume.

After about two weeks I spoke to this individual and was told my resume has been received but no positions are currently available, maybe toward the end of the summer.

After about a month I figured why wait till the end of the summer for the bad news, and decided to telephone again.

My next response was the following:
The company is not looking to hire anyone at this time or in the near future. No new positions are being considered at this time and the only way the company may consider hiring, is if someone were to quit.

I quess I am just answering my own question, but it looks like this will be going nowhere very quickly.

Okay...so it didn't work this time.

I don't see any harm in it. All it is wasting is about 1 minute of your time and a postal stamp. You won't get a chance if you don't send it and you may get a chance if you do.

Its a numbers game. The advice I got when I chose to leave my job was to send out one resume a day and eventually one will hit the bullseye. So true.
good luck!

I actually sent my resume to a company about 6 months ago just because I thought it was an interesting company to work for. They called me last week for an interview. Currently waiting for the owner to get back from vacation to interview with her and if all goes well, they may hire me! (keeping fingers crossed)

So it does work....and it can't hurt!

I do not think it would hurt at all. I would find out the name of the person that would more than likely be over your desired position and send it directly to them. If they do not have a position currently but, have inside knowledge of one coming up, they will save your resume. Human Resources would be a waste as they usually do not accept resume's or applications unless there is a job posting.

I took this tactic but in a different route, I made a list of all the top companies in my area and went to each website to look for job postings. I found that most of the job openings I found were not listed elsewhere or, were listed with a recruiter that perhaps didn't have my information. This was very eye opening and so now, I randomly check coporate websites for job listings.

The advice about looking on corporate web-sites for job openings is good. However, companies don't always post every opening they have on their web site so sending your resume to companies even if you don't know of an opening can lead to a job. Just don't expect it to happen overnight.

Best of luck to you.
