We just returned from Florida where we visited a couple of areas looking for a place to relocate. We really liked Ponte Vedra mainly because of the schools and overall safe community, but had a few concerns. First off, I know that Ponte Vedra is a wealthy area and by all means we are not millionaires. Because of the economy right now, we would be able to get a great deal on a house that probably would not be possible any other time. We have two children, one of which is 7 and I worry that he may have a hard time fitting in with the other children at school. I really am not so much worried about it at this age, but by the time he reaches middle/high school. Can anyone tell me what the people/kids are like in that area? Is it all about what you do and do not have? Is it the type of place where you are picked for a sports team based on who your parents are, etc...? Any insight would be appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about it. Ponte Vedra is mostly new money anyway. The only debutant, old-money, "high society" stuff in Jacksonville is in Ortega and even then it's not very serious.

Now, I'm sure there are tons of spoiled and snotty kids, but that's going to happen regardless of income level.

Besides, even if these kids live in an $800k home in the Plantations, they're probably going to school at Bolles with some kid who is an heir to the Charter Company, Winn-Dixie, Stein Mart fortunes, etc. So they'll have a nice humbling perspective on what real money is.
