As a long time but largely retired shell collector these days - I commend you for working with local sustainable shells and not the imported non-sustainable stuff that is widely sold in Florida. And for throwing back the live ones

FWIW - the best place to shell in Florida is - by far - Sanibel Island. If you've never been - treat yourself to a trip there. Best shelling is at the winter solstice low tides. Robyn

Was just there last week- for the fifth time. What a great spot! However it was a little crowded for Spring Break but all families. We usually go anytime from Nov-Feb. Sanibel/Captiva = real deal.
