Has anyone camped at Big Shell or Little Shell Beaches? The internet is limited on information.

What I have found out:

You must have 4 WD (I do) and go during Low Tide, because when High Tide comes in - you won't get out.
Go in with a full tank of gas.
Approximately how long does it take to drive down there from the Port Aransas Ferry?
Do people "boondock" or dry camp down there?

Any information given will be appreciated....in the meantime, I'll keep looking online - I did want to find someone who has been down there - recently. Thanks!

I have not been past the end of the road in the Padre Island National Seashore. This website gives you distances to the beaches from where the road ends. Padre Island National Seashore

National Park Service site: Padre Island National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service)
Click on the view the map button. It shows the beaches and mile post markers.

Port Aransas to the Malachite Visitor Center, 20301 Park Road 22, Corpus Christi, TX 78418 (National Park Ranger) is 18.4 miles.

Default Thanks for the links!

CapnRon.
The info helped. Decided to pass on PI camping...I remember how it was on Memorial Weekend 2009!
I can always go on one of my bi-weekly 3 day weekends when there is no holiday.
Decided to go to Florida instead. LOL
