Hi y'all...local yocal opinions requested...

How is life on Anastasia for young children? Ours are elementary school level. We realize the majority of residents will be non-families/retirees and plenty of tourists...as long as they have a few friends here and there. But does anyone live on, or know someone who lives on the island with kids? Kid friendly enough? Schools seem to be decent from what we can tell.

Thanks in advance.

The BEST elementary school in St Johns is RB HUnt and the island attracts people with elem ed eligible kids because of that Stay away from properties off the A1A as we do get many summer transients who are not kid friendly!

There are many families living on Anastasia island and R.B. Hunt is an excellent school. The kid-friendly neighborhood I would suggest is Sea Grove.

Thanks so much for the feedback. Looks like Hartley is a good enough school as well? I'm also guessing the southern end of the island is a bit more removed from the tourists?

Sea grove is beautiful for sure. As far as I know though, they are not block construction, which I think I'd like to have. I'm also concerned about ultra high taxes and insurance. I suppose living in paradise ain't cheap

Yes, my friends whose children attend Hartley Elementary are extremely satisified with Hartley Elementary School. Here's a link to a review I saw recently. St. Augustine, St. Johns County Public School Review: W.D. Hartley Elementary - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com What kind of house are you looking for, size, price range, old / new? You should consider looking at houses in St. Augustine Shores which is the area where Hartley Elem. is located. St. Augustine Shores is a nice community with a great variety of housing options. The community has sidewalks throughout which I consider to be a "must have" if you have children.

Great thanks...yeah I know the area you're talking about, and we are looking at a couple of those neighborhoods too. We're looking for something around 2,000 sq feet give or take. If it's on the island we can probably make do with less to enjoy that location. I also think I like the location of Menendez HS (and the fact that it's more modern) more so than St. Aug High.
