Thank you for your input! I have a few appts tomorrow. One is in 32258 - Bartram Springs, another one in 32065 Orange Park, another in Fleming Island(Eagle Harbor) and have another one that im not sure about ( area wise) Its called Cambridge Estates. Any input on these areas would be great!

I don't feel unsafe outside my home at night but I keep my wits about me anyway.

People have been carjacked and kidnapped at upscale shopping centers and shot in shopping malls. So finding a place that's totally crime-free is impossible.

Look around the area and if you can, do a drive-thru to get a general sense. Is the area kept up? Are homes painted, lawns trimmed, etc? Roofs in decent shape? You can tell a lot about an area by the homes - not the size or the newness, but how well they are maintained.

There are many, many neighborhoods off of Beach Blvd that range from old 1950s homes to newer housing developments, from trailer parks to high end apartments and condos. Most of them are safe. Some of them may be less than safe. It's better to look into a specific neighborhood and ask versus an entire area, and we can give you a better sense of the neighborhood.

It would be hellpful to you if you would give us your short list of needs on this thread so we can get you some good current info. Whoever told you that St. Johns has a crime problem is not being truthful. The good news is that you apparently are only moving from 3 hours away and can get to JAX to see first hand what the area looks like and jump on a rental fast when the right one becomes available.

Thanks, just posted our areas of interest, any input you might have is great!

If you want to be near your husband's office why not live near Beach Blvd? I recently moved near Beach and Hodges Blvd and absolutely love it around here. No complaints at all.

Well, for starters, Hawkins Cove, Sutton Lakes and Coachman Lakes are all decent neighborhoods near Kernan. That's where we were focusing our search 2 years ago. There are lots of others, just can't think of their names right now. I'll try to look up some of the others.

Also, what price range are you looking at?

I looked up a couple more that we looked at and liked; Drayton Place is down south of Beach off Kernan and Summerbrook is at Atlantic and Kernan. Both are nice developments with community pools.

St Johns does not have a crime problem. There is a lot more crime in other areas. The crime we have out here is like maybe a car break in by kids or something, but thats about the extent of it.
My husband works off Beach blvd and commutes from the JCP/210 area every day and it takes about 45minutes... thats also in the heart of traffic (leaving at 8am, working at 9am) and he works closer to downtown by the Hart bridge, so its going to depend on WHERE your husband will be working on Beach. Beach blvd is a very long road from the downtown area all the way to the beach.

Traffic in Orange Park is awful, thats no lie. Also, NAS is not close to Beach Blvd. Depending on where on Beach the work location is, Mayport may or may not be close either.

Fleming Island, Orange Park, etc... is quite a distance to Beach blvd.
I cant speak to the areas over near the beach, like Kernan and Atlantic, etc, I just know that traffic is heavy but thats pretty much anywhere on Beach.

As reported in another thread 5 of the 10 most dangerous/worse intersections in Jacksonville are on Beach Blvd.

#2) Beach Boulevard / Hodges Boulevard
#3) Beach Boulevard / Southside Boulevard
#7) Beach Boulevard / University Boulevard
#8) Beach Boulevard / SR-9A
#9) Beach Boulevard / San Pablo Road
