Murder is the only statistic that all agencies are required to report. Consequently some agencies do not report all the crimes. If components are missing the total is adjusted to 0.

Information is voluntarily submitted by each jurisdiction and some jurisdictions do not appear in the table because they either did not submit data or they did not meet deadlines.

Stats do not lie! But having said that, the people that are compiling the stats can/do at times. And the people interpreting the data that the stats provide can/do at times also. All I did was provide a copy of an FBI Uniform Crime Statistics Report and a link to look at said report, to stimulate interaction in the forum. Worked with you! (no harm, no foul)

As for the other list Jax being 89th That kind of floored me when I saw it. I cant explain it as I have no idea of how their facts were obtained or compiled.

As for Folio Weekly I wouldn't trust anything that rag wrote or editorialized on, if my life depended on it. As they are well known for reporting things with a slant just to annoy, embarrass even ridicule the powers that be in Jacksonville. (IMO)

And finally to your football example...A real fan would have watched the game(live, on TV or on the replay) and seen the impact the NT had whereas Mr. Not-A-Fan would have missed the game and who really cares what he thinks about the game.

I also used to think that Jacksonville was higher on the list on crime until I was challenged by several different sources that said it was not.

We all agree that Jacksonville has a crime problem. No disagreement there. But you were presented with a number of stats that put Jacksonville on a lower scale than some other cities and so you go digging for some other article in Folio Weekly that says otherwise and that makes you feel better. So in the end you will deem other sources misleading and the ones that fit your mindset right on target.

Actually, I pulled that out to show what a contradiction statistics can be. I have no idea which one is right or wrong, probably some where in the middle to be honest.

My point in this whole debate is, downtown jacksonville crime is worse than the statistics point out because more crime happens downtown area than any where else in this city yet every where else in the city is counted as downtown. It's really quite simple!
