Business Journal: Jacksonville Ranks 24th as a Retirement City

The usual suspects beat us. Think Sarasota #1, St. Pete, Palm Bay/Melbourne, Prescott AZ, Cape Coral/Fort Myers, Naples, etc.

We ranked highly because for a metro population of 1,328,000 at the time of the survey (seems like 2008 numbers) we had over 157,000 seniors (11.85% of population) and almost 77% of them came from out of state. Almost 4% of the seniors moved in from another county just in the past years.

Thoughts? I am not surprised by this given all of the senior living buildings/complexes in Jax and retirement havens Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine, and Amelia Island.
