FYI....2 very cool Home Tours coming up.......

(1) The 1898 Carnegie family mansion on Cumberland Island has recently been restored and will be giving Christmas tours starting Dec 12th (reservations required).

"CUMBERLAND ISLAND — Volunteers are nearly finished decorating one of the most famous structures on Cumberland Island for a Christmas tour that will show visitors how one of America’s wealthiest families celebrated the holiday season a century ago.

When doors open for the Dec. 12 tour, volunteers dressed in period clothing will wait in rooms throughout the 22,000 square-foot Plum Orchard mansion built in 1898 by the Carnegie family. They will explain the features of what was an engineering marvel at the time."

(2) The 26th Annual Holiday Home Tour in the Springfield Historic District is coming up, December 10th & 11th, featuring 7 gorgeously restored (and decorated) homes, festival with arts & live music in Klutho Park, and free holiday sweets from Sweet Pete's.

My great great grandmother was friends with the Carnegies and also vacationed with them on Cumberland. Not sure if they, too, had a house there, but the fireplace gate and other fireplace accessories in our house come straight from the Carnegie house on Cumberland (so they're at least missing those minor items and probably quite a bit more )

Also FSU, after seeing how decorated the Springfield homes were for the 4th of July, is it reasonable to expect the same level of decoration for Christmas?

Well, there's not a large strip of houses that all have decorations, but there are probably 100+ in the neighborhood that are.

Of course the walking/driving tour & festival will be decked out.
