Gmail recently rolled out new tabs on the top of the inbox for sorting. It's fairly easy to turn it off (you go to Settings, configure Inbox, and uncheck all checkboxes). But some people are complaining there's some problem with the number of unreads at the top (link below).
Here's a tip to software designers: if people use something everyday (like Gmail), do not make the new feature suddenly appear. Make it available to them, but not as the default.
Don't use "free" email. Yahoo, gmail, outlook, ISP.
Use a real email service, even if it costs you money.
So, I just had a client hacked today on Yahoo. Hacker emailed all her contacts, CC'd to all her contacts. And she emailed all her contacts, CC'd, to tell them not to open the email, because her Yahoo account was hacked.
Wonder why I get 100 spamn emails daily?
I've tried to like the new tabs and might if I could add all the tabs I want and could name them to suit myself. But I'm about to hit the revert button.
And I use both an email client for 'Save for reference' emails. I use Yahoo and Gmail for those sites that require some email, or to verify a registration but won't need to save the confirmation, fake ID's, junk stuff, etc.

She probably used one of these passwords, in which case it's not Yahoo's fault.
Back to the topic... I like the new Gmail tabs. What I didn't like was Gmail's Priority Inbox feature, which rolled out a couple of years ago.

This was available to users months ago. You just had to manually configure it by going into the settings wheel. I tried it out for a few weeks, but didn't really like the tabs. I've since reverted.

You can get it for $7.00--$11.00/month depending on the provider, plus the cost of a domain name, about $12.00--$15.00/year.
There are no ads in my emails. I like that.
I am sure Mr. Snowden could tell you that NSA is reading them, but I don't know how to avoid that so I don't worry about what I cannot control.
I use TWC Navisite Hosted Exchange service, and have no issues at all with delivery, syncing, etc.
I would consider 1and1.com since they offer Outlook 2013 and are cheap. That is where I register my domains. I have had mostly good and some less good experiences with their service.
Go to Settings > Configure Inbox. View "Select Tabs To Enable" box.
Deselect all but Primary and you will be back to all emails in just your regular Inbox.
I have my acct on this! (I dont use it though,i dont trust them)
