My wife and kids are moving to Indy soon for residency at IU hospitals. We would like to live in surrounding suburbs such as fishers, carmel, zionsville, brownsburg, avon and plainfield. I was wondering if there is any concentration of residents with families in any of these areas. Also, I am somewhat concerned about commute time and wonder how long it would take me to get to the hospital from each of these. Thanks and I am looking forward to becoming a Colts and Pacers fan.

Depending on traffic, the commute from Fishers to the hospitals could be "bad" (not sure where you are coming from). It could take up to 45 minutes to an hour. Carmel ... not as bad, Zionsville, about the same as Carmel (chbartel should be able to tell you). Brownsburg & Plainfield are on the right side of town to the hospitals. My neighbor is a dean of the medical school and we live in Fishers ... if that measn anything.

Personally I would live in either Plainfield or Avon. I actually really like Avon enough that I plan on building out there. Some of the newer neighborhoods appear to be family friendly. Transit time should be about a half an hour.

Brownsburg would be ok, the others, there's no highway or they're farther out. Plainfield to downtown is 30 minutes for example, then you have to park. Fishers would be a nightmare. If you have the wherewithal you could rent a place in Meridian Kessler and shoot down Pennsylvania in the morning.
