Looks like we're moving to Indiana and my husband will be working Columbus.

I was thinking about trying to live near downtown Columbus but I just read something about The Commons being bought and possibly being turned in to offices??

Is downtown Columbus a decent place to live? Are there parks and sidewalks if I wanted to take the kids for a walk to downtown or would there be a better area that's priced reasonably and in between Columbus and Indy ( by reasonable I mean a 3 bedroom for under $1000/month to rent).

We like to be close to shopping and restaurants but not in the "middle of it" because I HATE having to wait until after rush hour is over just to go out for pizza.

A part of the The Commons Mall is going to be office space and part of it is going to be shopping and an indoor playground.

Downtown is nice ... there are pockets of mansions and painted ladies as well as modest housing. I live on the northside of town and I bike downtown to the parks (Mill Race Park is downtown) and the library and am looking forward to biking down the commons mall once it's done! We miss that place. I can bike there in about 40 minutes with my little on in the bike car. If it was just me, I could probably make it in under a half hour. Columbus has a terrific bike trail system.

Thanks Domergurl. Great to know about the bike trails as well as the playground. Do you have any idea when it's going to be finished?

Next year I believe. When we were looking for houses, we wanted to be close to the people trail.

I'm really interested in renting in or near Downtown close to The Commons and the people trail. If anyone has any info or happens to see any "For Rent" signs in that area could they please DM me? We need a 3 or 4 bedroom or at least a very large 2 bedroom.
