Hey guys,

I currently live in Warsaw Indiana, and I'm considering a move to either South Bend, or Indianapolis, I haven't decided which yet.

here are a couple of my concerns

#1: I'm legally blind and have no transportation assistance moving. Does Indy have any transportation Assistance programs that could help me move?

How do you apply for jobs in Indy? I am an IT guy, and I'm graduating from Ivy Tech this year, and I'm just not able to find anything in Warsaw. I'm a 37 single male living on Social Security Disability at the moment, my biggest concern is transportation since I'm not able to drive a car.

I know Indianapolis has bus routes all around town, I used to attend the Indiana School for the Blind when I was a kid there in Indy. In fact if I had more schooling then my Associates I'd apply for a job there as a houseparent or something, but I don't know what kind of relocation programs they have either

Anyway, how do you move to a new town like that if you can't drive a car? is my main question? I mean, I know hire someone, but when your on disability and have no money, what other programs are there? employers usually have relocation programs don't they?

Many years ago, my husband was the manager of a visually handicapped person in IT at the City/County of Indy. You might check with them. If you got a job downtown, there are a lot of places to live downtown within walking distance and that would reduce the need for an extensive transportation system. Indygo has some available transportation on call for such issues. Check their website.

The Federal Government has some programs for visually handicapped and we have a person with a guide dog in our building. Cant help much more than that however. The call site off of Shadeland for the IRS also has employees with a variety of issues.

Since you are alumni of the Blind School ... do they have any information resources that may be able to assist you?
