Indianapolis was #4 on the 2011 Forbes list but not in the top 20 in 2012.

The Midwest is well represented though, with nine cities on the list including four in Ohio.

i think there are 2 reasons for this.
#1 gasoline is higher in Indiana/Indy than many parts of Ohio. Thats a major problem considering we know how gasoline affects a ton of different prices from food to anything shipped on a truck.
#2 the tax for Lucas Oil Stadium needs to be paid off now and go.
that should knock us back into the top 20 if not the top 10.
Regardless Indianapolis is still very affordable.
Heck someone just moved from NYC to Indy here on City-data i forgot the username of him. But he may of noticed his cost of living is cut in HALF. Taxes are also way lower and Indy isnt a police state like NYC.

Have you priced steaks lately? My gosh they are almost like buying gold. I think I just paid $11 to $12 per lb. at Marsh. Please don't tell me how cheap Indy is.

All prices are going up.
Wild Inflation will kick in because of the Fed and QE1 and QE2 and overprinting of money.
2nd food cost are going up.
3rd gasoline is way more expensive than 5 years ago.

You can't have it both ways. Indy is either cheap or expensive.

I have to agree with you on that. Not only are Marsh's prices high but they also frequently sell old produce that should probably be tossed into the dumpster. Some of it is not fit for human consumption.

When I was in Carmel I stopped in a Marsh there and it appeared that its fresh produce is much better than what I get at our local Marsh.

Just picked up 2 porterhouse, 12.19 lb. Granted food is going up everywhere and Indianapolis food is still cheaper than a lot of cities. If any factor were to drive the city down, it would be rental property. Housing prices as far as purchasing is still dirt cheap but for renters, it's going up substantially. Actually WTHR did a story on it a few weeks ago. Instead of your typical 3-5% increase, some places are trying to go double digits. Messed up. but the whole affordable place, the only place in the midwest where it is noticeably higher is Chicago. CBus, STL, Ind, Cle, Cin are all around the same price points for everything.
