My parents and i went to indiana in july 2007 for a couple of nights. we stayed in the town of Lebanon for a fan fair and I was rather shocked to see smoking going on in many public places, including in the hotel lobby, the pool room, and many other public places. I also never even saw anyone even get in trouble for smoking in those areas. Any comments on this would be greatly appreciated. By the way, i do not smoke and I hate the smell of cigarette smoke.

I also hate smoke and wish all public areas were smoke free, since I have asthma, its a matter of life and breath as well as numerous others out there too! I sure hope cause I am soon to relo to the area, hope that was an isolated case!

You may want to research anti-smoking in Terre Haute. It's a fairly blue collar/rural area ... I knew someone in my old neighborhood who was transferred to Terre Haute and they didn't want to move there, so he is now commuting from Plainfield, a burb of Indianapolis on I70.

Well it's not all smokers that do this to everyone. I'm a smoker and I be as polite as I can. I smoke outside and away from people.

Default smoking indiana

Smoking will eventually be banned everywhere in Indiana. Many of the smaller towns are slower catching on the ban wagon and there are many small towns here in Indiana. I love indiana .

Is smoking still allowed in Terre Haute? How do I find that out?
I find at least here in Fl. and Ca. that all these total no smoking bans its worse you have every one who smokes standing around outside looking like bums I don't smoke and I don't like it but if I'm with someone who does I like the option for us to use the smoking section so we can relax they smoke while I sip on coffee after the meal..They need better ventilated smoking areas or places that allow smoking and some that don't so everyone has somewhere to go it should be a choice if you know someone smokes there don't go or don't sit in that section..What I hate is where I work to get out or in you have to walk past the nasty smoke instead of an area for them I have to pass them outside the doorways if the place is ventilated its not that bad ..I hate people that drink any amount and drive on the same rode I have to take with my kids but no one seems to care about that..you can't just pick on one set of people its not fair..

In fact, I even recall seeing cigarettes and cigarette shops displayed on several billboards in Indiana.

Even in Valparaiso, there are smoking and nonsmoking areas of restaurants. It's disgusting. I do not agree that "all non-smoking" is bad. If someone wants to smoke, they should go outside. Why go out with them? Just wait for them to come back. Maybe they will smoke less because of it. People should not be smoking around kids.

Are you sure? By looking at the reactions of the people who responded here of course you can. And being a smoker all I can do is just sit here and take it.

It's smoke free in Louisville and people, including police officers, smoke on a continual basis. Until cigarettes are illegal I fear this will continue.
