Hello, we may be relocating to the Greensburg area. Although we are from Ohio, a suberb NW of Dayton, I really know nothing about the Greensburg area. Schools are important. The area we live in now we can walk to just about anything library, park, grocery, school etc. I would love to find a similar community in Indiana. Any information about this area would be appreciated. We plan on making a trip within the next couple of weeks. Thanks!

With the new massive Honda plant that is going to be built in Greensburg, look for the place to be changing a lot in the coming years.

What do you need to know about the schools? It is a hectic time with Honda coming but there is many good things in the area.

Default greensburg area

Hi there- I grew up about 13 miles south of Greensburg in a small town, Westport. I lived in the Dayton area (Lebanon and then Oregonia) for 4 years.

If you want to walk to school......you would be able to do that better in Greensburg.......but it will not be like you are used to. Greensburg is the "big city" and is a small town. There is a new Honda plant coming and that will grow things more. Shelbyville is larger and I know nothing about the schools there. It is a longer drive for working in Greensburg.

Greensburg has its own schools. Several elementaries and one high school. They have football, basketball, baseball and a swim team. There is a newer YMCA there.

Decatur County has two high schools. Greensburg is more or less in the center of Dec. Co. The southern half goes to South Decatur Elem. and SDHS......these are kids from the nearby small towns of Westport, Sardinia, Burney, etc..and the countryside (alot of farm country). The northern half of the county goes to North Decatur Elem. and NDHS.

There is talk .......I think it might be a done deal......of combining the high schools into one larger school and making it more centrally located. I think, though from your post that you would be more interested in Greensburg or Batesville area....Batesville is east toward Cinci and is a drive like Shelbyville. Property is higher in Batesville but it's a pretty nice area.

Default Greensburg area

Thank you for the replies. We have gone over and checked out several areas. Shelbyville, Batesville and Columbus are on our short list. All about twenty minutes from Greensburg. Both my children will be in Elementary school next year so we are looking for a good school district. I realize that Honda is coming to Greensburg (that is the reason for our possible move) so it will be changing quite a bit, but as we traveled through Geensburg it seemed to be a little run down. Thanks in advance for any more information about these cities.

I grew up in Hope Indiana, a great little town. Good school systems and central location to Greensburg, Columbus, Shelbyville. I dont know much about Greensburg but Columbus and Shelbyville are both nice towns.
