Today is the last day of our visit to the Chicagoland area. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we have been unable to get into the city.

I am from the SW burbs myself, but we're staying out in Davis, near Rockford. I am DESPERATE to get some saganaki before we head back. We'll be heading to Rockford for lunch in a couple hours.

Any help?

I miss my childhood favorites! I was lucky enough to find a place locally here (The Sand Burr) where I got some Cream of Chicken Rice soup and a salad with GARLIC dressing... and my kids got to taste what Mommy grew up eating.

Please CDers... help me quick!!!!

I called around Rockford and the owner of the Gyros House assured me they had saganaki. I was so excited. I packed everyone into two cars and made them drive up there. We got inside, I ordered first... saganaki and gyros. We all sat down and our food started coming out. They were bringing plates one at a time. When we were all about 1/2 done (very generous portions), I went up to the counter and asked where the saganaki was.

Saganaki? We don't serve saganaki. Owner/man who said on the phone they did and then took my order for it and CHARGED us for it? He had left for the day, right after taking our order. Effusive apologies from the employees. But, by then we had already eaten, no one was hungry and it was too late to go into Chicago anyway (which we would've done if we had to the first time)

We won't be going into Rockford during our next visit. No use taking the chance when Chicago's just another 45 minutes down the road, opposite direction. Waste of gas, waste of money.

What a jerk!

I wish I would have seen this. There is a restaurant on the river in Dundee that serves saganaki.
