LFunk, this issue did not just pop up on the radar. As I remember it, the Border Patrols really kicked off under Bush. But let's say we not divide this issue into a Republican vs Democrat thing and instead view it as a AMERICAN issue that we the people are demanding be addressed and resolved.
In Dubya's second term, he tried to get amnesty for illegals...two times if I remember right.
Which is more intrusive: requiring that people pay their share of costs for health care services that they will inevitably demand, or freely detaining any member of an entire race of people - illegals and legals - for no reason other than their race?
Oh wait. I guess the second one isn't intrusive if you're a white Republican.
Immigration has nothing to do with race. It's a function of nationality.

Illegal immigration and illegal immigrants have been and continue to be a very serious problem in this country.
To deny that or dismiss it: is a product of ignorance, naivety or one's participation in and of the formely metioned problem.

This is the first time a Federal mandate of purchase has ever been attempted. Its going to be up to the courts, we shall see. However, the bill doesn't have enforcement (it actually says that in order to pay your "fine", your money, property, or anything can't be seized by the government, so I think it'll stand up in court, not sure though)
However, the Constitution already prohibits illegal search and seizure. The immigration law is in clear violation of the 4th amendment.
This is not a REPUBLICIAN OR DEMOCRAT issue, we are talking aobut here, this is a crucial Political issue, not being addressed, and for exactly what reason. I am sure most political figures, have their reasons for not wanting to address this issue a plauge facing our Nation, and getting worse by the day. Something must be done and soon.

No one is required to buy auto insurance.
This doesn't violate any laws.
Courts have allowed DUI checkpoints. This is no different.
