The earlier immigrants (not to be confused with the illegal aliens of today) came from all over Europe. They weren't mostly from one ethic group. So they Americanized quickly rather than colonizing.

We still have some of those today but they aren't all over the U.S. and they are mainly ethnic business neighborhoods.

Many NON white people also followed the rules. Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Black African, Hispanic from Bolivia, etc. and did well.
