Orlando Pereyra works as a cook at a group home for disabled adults. Immigrants from Argentina, he and his wife came to the United States on a tourist visa and stayed when it expired in 2002.

But state Rep. Mike Noel should be happy. After a week when urban police chiefs from Park City to West Valley questioned the wisdom of the Kanab Republican's legislative crackdown on undocumented immigrants, Provo put Noel's policing theories into practice. Officers jumped in with gusto to do lawmakers' bidding. Apparently, they even had an immigration agent along for the ride.

"This bill is about bringing the rule of law to the state of Utah," Noel said when lawmakers debated the bill a year ago, "to not give people false hopes, to not, in any way, induce people to commit crimes. It sends a clear message that we intend to obey all our laws."
I salute Mike Noel for stepping and ensuring that all laws are obeyed.

Hopefully the rest of American law enforcement will follow Utah's lead. It's getting late in the day and the pot that contains the ugly side of this issue is about to boil over.
Enforcing laws is something to be excited about? What - has our legal system succumbed to the culture of corruption so common in Mexico and other places SOB?
I am glad that the law is being enforced, but I find it sad that this news is so rare that it is being celebrated.

I agree-it is pretty sad that we need to celebrate just because laws are being enforced-that is how very messed up things have become in our country. Hopefully this country will get back to the rule of law so it becomes an every day occurance and not something that we need to celebrate.
It really is funny reading this though, I must warn you. The writer is so one-sided it's unbelievable. If you read the comments, though, you will see what most Utahns think. (I'd say about 95% or so)

It’s a sad commentary indeed.
