Well, I don't care what the story is real or fake. The real story about NY releasing many prisoners because it can't afford to run and care for so many immates. The cost of running the jail system especially when workers pad their overtime to jack up their total comp. so when they retire they can milk the pension.
The number of state workers retiring with a 6 figure pension is rising faster than ever. You don't see the state assembly ever talk about pension reform ever. The governor has repeatedly talk about it but it gets shot down. So the only way is to stop hiring workers and no have to run big state run systems like jails.
This is the true reason about the bail reform about letting out criminals on low level offenses.
Breitbart is a propaganda rag. Very few take it for gospel.
Having said that, Trump has a history of dumping illegals into US communities, so I am not surprised this happened under his watch.
weell, Breitbart is a propaganda rag, but it's merely a report from ICE about the alleged and convicted violent criminals (but no question of their ID as as illegal aliens).
When googled - there are other reports of as many as 440 illegals that are dangerous offenders were released even though ICE wanted them. What do you expect from a city were they banned the use of the words illegal alien as it dehumanizes them!

So when Democrats sue the Feds to keep illegals from being deported and create sanctuary cities and states do you consider that dumping illegals into communities?
A lot of liberal states have their own criminal justice reforms include releasing offenders from state prison to county jail, or placing them on probation.
I can't speak for NY, but I can speak for California (because I from and live in CA) with their AB109. The majority of the offenses on AB109 are deportable offense (for non-USC) under CIMT. One of the felons benefited from AB109 was released early from prison and ended up murdered his cousin and a cop from Whittier, CA.
The fact is that many big cities are controlled by democrats and it doesn't look good they have to reduce jail use because of budget shortfalls. They are at a point where the taxes are starting to negatively affect their net tax incomes because of high net worth taxpayers leaving CA, NYC. Just one multi-millionaire pays more taxes than hundreds of people making six figures. The jails don't have enough room to keep so many drug crimes and misdemeanors like fighting and burglary. These states are choosing to let people out early and let the public deal with them.
But without a support system you're letting out thousands of criminals with no job opportunities and social support to go out in the public. There will be more muggings, thefts, random acts of violence, women getting attacked, and a lot of people will be calling the police and the police can't do much to combat a system where its a catch and release system now.

The least these COs can do is watch a high profile prisoner like Jeffrey Epstein, like a hawk, and ensure he does not die under their watch which probably be a career/pension killer.

Corrections, LE, and judicial have to be the last thing they cut though. Without those three, one really does not have a govt nor a municipality.
Plus, our money is fiat. Someone can just print it out for us. We will promise to pay back in the future, and if we dont we just print more, and kick the can further down the street. That is how our economy works. Our highest net worth individuals are the money printers anyways.
If Trump Presidency in the last three or four years can run up the national debt to however high, surely, the State or the City can run up their own debt high enough to keep a few hundred murderers, and rapists locked up for a bit longer.
