Illegal immigrants and other uninsured Los Angeles restaurant workers are being offered inexpensive health care coverage by a community clinic and a food service worker group. (http://www.krmg.com/ap/ap/health/health-care-coverage-offered-illegal-immigrants/nNQTG/ - broken link)
They are working illegally in those jobs and they already get free medical. Why would they spend $25 a month when all they have to do is walk into the emergency room of any hospital and get free medical care?
In a Massachusetts clinic where my LEGAL immigrant husband had to go, I assured them that he was LEGAL and they said it doesn't matter! Everything that he went through to get here and stay here counts for nothing. You don't have to be legal.
I don't favor "rights" for illegal immigrants ... beyond what our laws and society have deemed appropriate for any human being in our country ... but this "program" you complain about, it seems to me, benefits that geographical area rather than damages it. Someone other than a hospital where an illegal may walk into seeking help will be paying the bill for care. Until the nation comes to grips and deals reasonably with the illegals problem ... I don't see anything to object about here.

They wouldn't. But that's not what emergency care is. I mean, why would ANYONE spend ANY money if all you had to do is walk into the ER?

For-profit hospitals can turn someone away if they don't have a life threatening condition. Non-profit facilities/clinics provide free health care for low income (non-income??) people for any kind of medical need - such as a cold. That's where illegals go for FREE treatment.
