Gov. Phil Bredesen signed a bill Monday that calls on local jailers to report people whose immigration status they cannot verify, rejecting calls to veto the measure.

there is absoultly nothing wrong with this bill[as reported]. If a person's ID cannot be established, then Kentucy LEO can notify ICE for verification of immigration status and deportation. This is the law. Kentucy LEOs working in concert with Federal Immigration agents. Kentucky is a true example of a State working to enforce US Immigration Laws.

It needs to be expanded to ALL stops and not just the jails. They are on the right track.

I have to prove my identity if stopped why should Illegals get a free pass?

ID does not prove immigration status. New Mexico's residents have ID[State issued Driver's licence] that does not make all drivers in New Mexico citizens or legal resident aliens of the US. If a New Mexico resident is stopped in Arizona, his DL is an accetable form of ID in Arizona, but still does not establish immigration status.

Good for TN. I hope other states choose to follow the AZ and TN examples.

And? If a person's identity cannot be established then ICE should be notified on traffic stops too. Police ask a myriad of questions during a stop not just show them a DL. Escondido now has ICE agents pairing with Police patrols and it's working wonders. Of course the illegal population is quaking in their shoes but I find that a great thing.

Why would you be ok with it in jails but not other violations like driving? Driving without a license and registration is a very serious issue.
