I have to wonder, they have that tremendous warranty but I never see a Hyundai or a Kia on the road unless it's practically brand new. Like new enough to have dealer plates on it. If I see them used on dealer lots, they are half the price of comparable Japanese marques.
I've never seen one on the side of the road period. Their image has improved dramatically and the products have been top rate for years. The warranty helps in advertising the cars and also shows manufacturer confidence in their own product. It must be working because every other manufacturer has since improved their warranty coverage. You will see resale values start to even out between Japanese and Korean cars because Japanese quality has decreased while Korean quality has improved significantly. Changing public perception is a long term goal and Hyundai is well on its way. It's easier to make a better car then it is to convince someone to buy it.
That has to be one of the ten best ads of the decade. Too funny.
As for the car, I have a Spectra and it's a solid, quality, well-equipped car which I like very much.
Me too I looked long and hard for a new car and decided on an 09 Spectra5. I wanted a wagon type car for my dogs, but the Mazda3, Honda Element and Scions were a bit out of my price range for what they had to offer.
I was a Kia hater for a long time. I grew up with a mechanic dad and he was VERY opinionated on cars. I have a '23 ford roadster and grew up working on cars and could never imagine myself in a plastic car like a Hyundai or Kia. I've had my Spectra for a little over a year now and I get compliments on it all the time The warranty is great and while I would still LOVE to own a MazdaSpeed3, the Kia is good for now.
I drove a Soul about 2 weeks ago and it was a really fun car to drive. Zippy, roomy (I'm 6'1) and the controls were easy to reach and use. Very user friendly car, and I kind of wish I would have waited a year so I could pick one up for myself
No they don't. They didn't always have that warranty, and they stuff still sold. Now, the warranty is a huge plus on an already good product. Hyundai/Kia have come a long way, and they are only getting better.
No, they didn't sell. That's why Hyundai had to offer that warranty, because their cars sucked big time and no one would buy them.

Still wrong. Their cars sucked at one time and experienced a huge turn around starting in the late 90's. The warranty is partially a marketing tool and definitely made people more comfortable to buy the vehicles (which were of good quality at this point). Ever since then many other manufacturers have taken the long distance warranty idea and put their own spin on it.

They didn't sell. That's why they had to offer the warranty. Their quality was such crap for so long (and it's better but not great now) that no one would touch a Hyundai.
They started selling somewhat well after the warranty, and have only recently become a "mainstream" brand as opposed to a "cheap" brand.
Kia is simply trying to cash in on the release of the Nissan Cube. All of the Asian car makers do this, annoying as it is. Sadly, it is the man on the street that has to suffer We now have to stare at these ugly contraptions for the next 10-20 years
