My daughter's Hyundai Tuscon was stolen from the teachers parking lot at the school where she works. They drove up to it, someone got out of the car and they drove off in less than two minutes (it was on camera). Apparently they did not like the Hyundai though, They drove it somewhere else and stole a different car. Messed it up a bit through because apparently it is fun to break other people's stuff.
I had our 2016 Kia Sorento done last month. Took the dealer around 1/2 to do the fix and you get 2 decals one for each front driver and passenger windows say you need a key to start vehicle. I still use my club because these idiots won’t notice the decals and break the windows. We’re i live it hasn’t been a problem.
I took my daughters 2020 Tucson in the other day for the free software security upgrade.
I have heard of some isolated reports where some after the upgrade have been stolen. The service manager at the dealership believes those cars were stolen because the system was not armed with the remote.
He did recommend to continue the use of the club for the reason you stated.

I got the notice to schedule my software update on my 2015 Elantra. Will be calling today to schedule the update and free oil change (a perk offered at the time I bought my car new). Wife’s 2019 Kona is push button start so she doesn’t need this update.
How about the fact that you may not get an insurance company to cover your vehicle.
a number of people in our family have kia or Hyundai cars. They have no problems getting insurance. So a remote or non-existent "chance" that you may not get insurance does not appear to be a concern.
My daughter's Hyuandai was just stolen. It had an immobilize, but they bypassed it in less than two minutes (the whole thing was on cameera). They Broke the ignition and off they went (they arrived in a stolen Kia). Beat her car all to snot and then ran out of gas so they dumped it and stole a Honda (also in a matter of less than two minutes)
I thought about starting a thread on this but decided to add it here:

U.S. Judge Rejects Hyundai And Kia’s Proposed $200 Million Settlement Over Vehicle Thefts
Hyundai and Kia may have to increase their proposed settlement to properly compensate owners impacted by vehicle thefts
Hyundai and Kia’s proposed $200 million settlement agreement with owners of vehicles that have been stolen or damaged has been rejected by a federal judge in the U.S.
Approximately 9 million Hyundai and Kia models in the United States from the 2011-2022 model years were manufactured without an immobilizer, leading to a spate of thefts over the past two years, a trend that shows few signs of abating. A bunch of lawsuits quickly followed as the thefts continued before they were consolidated into a single multidistrict litigation case in the Central District of California.
Auto News notes that the $200 million settlement proposed by Hyundai and Kia would have awarded owners whose cars were stolen and never recovered, or totaled, up to $6,125. Meanwhile, individuals whose cars were damaged or had lost personal property during an attempted theft were to be eligible for up to $3,375.
I never got a recall for my Forte or my Elantra. Some punks stole my Elantra over the weekend and it looks totaled. I'm waiting on the repair estimate from my shop. I just celled the Kia dealer to get a software upgrade.
Hagens Berman is handling the suit. I contacted them and requested a copy of the police report from the cops. Hopefully I can get some money back. It says people can get up to $6000.

When I bought my 2015 Elantra new the dealership had an offer of free oil changes for as long as I owned the vehicle. Made an appointment for my oil change and included the update while there. According to my car’s owners manual, if you close all the doors and lock the car with the key fob then if any of the doors are opened without unlocking with the fob or key then the horn will sound as an alarm. No matter where I park, I’ve always locked the doors with the fob. My wife’s Kona isn’t part of this because hers has the push button start which has the anti theft feature other Hyundais are missing.
We had an old Toyota pickup and a couple times I hopped in random Toyotas with their lights on and turned them off. They only cut half a dozen key patterns so you had a decent chance of hopping in anything Toyota with any random Toyota key and driving off with it in the '70s and '80s
I bought this new Ford back in the late 80s. My wife accidentally locked the keys in the trunk. My father had a bucket of old car keys from the 50s and 60s and stated he'll be able to unlock this new car. BS I thought, those old keys are not going to work on this brand new car, no way....wrong.
I had a 1984 Ford Escort stolen. This was back in '93 or so.
It broke down on them.
