hello all. We presently own a kia sorrento - we are now looking at getting a second car and want something smaller. I do, however, definitely want a '5th door' or 'hatchback' type car with the seats that fold down. Looking to spend no more than around 20,000, preferably less.

So far, we've looked at Hyndai Elantra and wanted to see the KIA forte, but the dealer said there were no more 5 door kia fortes in our area until the new model year starts. The KIA soul might do it for us, but it is such a strange looking car, not sure how keen I am on it. KIA rio might also fit the bill.

Anyone have any suggestions outside of kia/hyundai?

thanks

Pass on Forte. friend has one.
I'd rather recommend KIAs over Hyundais though. KIA started making helluva nice cars and feedback is very welcoming from end users.

Oh, yes, of course. Scion. Has 2 hatchbacks, well, one station wagon and two whatchamacallits. 4 doors and hatch or tailgate.
SCION IS STILL MADE IN JAPAN. You can't beat that.

If you wheel and deal well you should be able to get a Subaru Impreza hatchback 2.0i Premium with automatic (well, CVT) for about 20K. You can definitely get the base for well under that. Get's standard all wheel drive to boot.

Go to Kia Cars, SUVs, Crossovers, Minivans, & Future Vehicles | Kia Motors to see the 2014 Forte. It looks like it'll have the same power train as the Elantra. Though very similar, they have very different styling. Other options to consider include Ford Focus or Fiesta, Mazda 3 (2014 model soon), or Honda Fit

KIA and Hyundai are sister companies, and the kia forte is the kia version of the elantra. The difference is one is available

I think Scion was at the bottom of some quality survey recently.

The Elantra is a great choice but I would look at the soon to be released 2014 Mazda 3 if you can.

I second the Mazda 3 hatch version, you can even get a good deal on 2013 since the 14 is a major redesign.

I just bought the 2013 Mazda3 and it's a great car, fun to drive and the mileage is as advertised. I know I should have waited for the 2014 but I was having problems with my old car and needs something fast, They are making good deals for the 2013s and you can get a nice one for around 20,000. I'd go check one out.
