Huntsville has only a hand full of suburbs that are actually incorporated: Madison, New Hope, Owens Crossroads, Triana, Gurley, Athens, and others that I didn't name. On the other hand, Huntsville has a lot of surbubs that are unincorporated areas, including Moores Mill, Meridianville, New Market, Hazel Green, Harvest, Toney, and other unincorporated areas that help make up the metro's population. Can and will these unincorporated areas become cities and actual suburbs in the future?

Again, let's hope not. And again, why are you so fascinated with urban sprawl? Why are you wishing to curse our fair city and beautiful countryside with the scourge of urban sprawl?

I actually kinda agree with Kell16191 in this case, being incorporated or unincorporated has nothing to do with sprawl, Huntsville is already sprawling immensely in these unincorporated areas maybe if they incorporated they would be able to provider better services such as sewers, instead of septic tanks in huge subdivisions like they've been doing. Not saying all these cities should incorporate but Madison and Huntsville are the only incorporated populated areas in Huntsville. The Monrovia/Harvest area has been growing rapidly and can no longer be considered rural I think some of the more heavily populated areas of Madison County should consider this. The beautiful countryside is already disappearing rapidly in the county its inevitable so the debate about whether these unincorporated areas should incorporate really isn't about sprawl at this point.

I think this should have been written "Northern Alabama (or the Tennessee Valley or the Huntsville region) has only a hand full of suburbs that are actually incorporated...."
