Yeah, Bulldawg (and OP). That number is way wrong. 7K NOT 70K. And, 7K is the max. All reports/indicators are that it will be more like less than 2K actual relocations. Possibly up to 4K. But, essentially over 8 years (since 2005). It's not going to be terribly significant or noticeable. And, we repeat: NOT 70K. That's never ever ever been the number. Way wrong. Way off.

I think 7,000 is way too low. Huntsville has been adding 9,000-10,000 people annually.

Hmmm...we can go by Gov't projections/media reports or by what you think. THE GOVERNMENT says 4K Gov't/civilian jobs are being realigned, and some 3K associated contractor jobs. REALITY also says not all those people will transfer (as they NEVER do in ANY realignment situation). Some/most jobs will be filled locally.

Gov't decisions and media reports or what Bulldawg thinks...? Once again, you can't just say something and it become reality. Noone - anywhere - ever reported 70K jobs were coming here. Ever.

I think the Rio is going to withdraw from hosting the next summer Olympics and Huntsville is going to host it.

I think we are going to have the world's tallest skyscraper by 2012.

I think we are going to have a subway system when 7,000,000 people move here over the next six months.

I think they are going to relocate the White House to Huntsville.

I think since they call University Drive "the strip" and since Huntsville is named Huntsvegas, University Drive will be just like Vegas one day -- only with more hotels. Celine Dion will move here.

I think they are going to host the Oscars from The Monaco this year.

I think that even though they say now, "Only Paris is worthy of Rome. Only Rome is worthy of Paris", Huntsville will be integrated into the saying one day, and Rome and Paris will be our sister cities.

I think Huntsville will have the world's busiest airport in two years.

I think we are going to have two major league baseball teams like Chicago next spring.

I think every neighborhood is going to have two IKEAs. Hampton Cove will have three. One will be an IKEA inside of an IKEA.

I think Disney is going to open a theme park in Boaz when the last tenants leave the outlet mall. Universal Studios is opening when they tear down Madison Square Mall.

I think they are going to turn the Tennessee River into an ocean -- bring in sand, and turn the water into salt water.

I think downtown Huntsville will become a shopping mecca much like midtown Manhattan, Rodeo Drive, South Beach by next Christmas.

You can't just make up stuff.

Ok, why are you bashing me. I never disputed the government research. I gave my opinion on the research.

I'm not bashing you, Bulldawg. But don't you think THE GOV'T knows how many of its own jobs are being moved here? They know how many people work on other bases, other programs. It's not up to speculation. Moving X base/X program to Huntsville. It's not up for interpretation. They said 4K Gov't jobs (starting in 2005). Why do YOU say that's low or not accurate. They know what jobs/programs/bases are affected and by how much. It's their jobs, their decisions. It's not up for speculation or interpretation.

I'm sorry for being sarcastic. But we can live in reality or we can live in make-believe land. The Gov't targets bases/programs/jobs. THEY know. It's not an opinion. It's fact. the only thing that's open for speculation is how many of those 4K gov't jobs and 3K contractor jobs will actually come here and how many will be filled locally.
I'm sorry for being sarcastic.

Furthermore, aside from BRAC, Madison County has 310K people in 2010. The projection for 2025 is 350K. That's an increase of 40K over fifteen years, not 10K a year. Our metro will be around 500K by 2025 based on trends.
You are dying for explosive growth. You need to move to Raleigh or Austin. Those places are exploding. We are growing. More people are moving in than moving out. But, we aren't going to experience explosive growth. I'm sorry. If you want explosive, go to Raleigh or Austin...or Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston...

and how many jobs have been lost just this year at Marshall and contractors? IIRC there were around 600 just in last few months. Granted not all will leave.

Sorry but there is no way Huntsville or Madison county is gaining 10K a year unless all of the folks who are coming to H'ville have a LOT of kids

The government has no clue how many people are coming...why do you think there is NOT speculation? For every government job, you need contractors....which will bring more people in...
