602 sq miles.

Houston hasn't grown in size, but the sprawl outside to create satellite burbs and exurbs has.The METRO has grown, Houston hasn't,outside the addition of Kingwood. And who knows how big the Metro is, people as far north as the Woodlands claim to be Houston, heck even Waverly claims to be Metro.

So, Metro size is subjective.

Subjective. But without the employment opportunities that Houston provides in Medical, Oil etc, places like Sugarland, The Woodlands, Pearland etc. wouldn't have evolved.

I thought that the metro went north to Huntsville, east past Baytown, west past the Prairie View area, and south to Lake Jackson.
