Hello to all, need some advice on neighborhoods. My husband works in the energy corridor and we are looking to buy our first home. Our price range is max $180,000. He has quite a commute now so he does not mind some commute just not like and hour each way. We have to elementary school age children and are wanting a family friendly neighborhood if possible with a quieter, community feel. I know this may be impossible to find in Houston but we would love something with nice mature trees and sidewalks and an old fashioned friendly neighborhood feel.. I appreciate all and any suggestions. The age of the neighborhood and homes is not an issue. Thanks in advance

Lakes On Eldridge was built for exactly what you are looking for, but I think it will be out of your price range. Look at Hearthstone. It is on FM 529, inside Hwy 6. Private golf course, beautiful trees, outstanding neighborhood, and cy fair schools. Older homes(but for Houston, that means late 70's-early 90's).

Stay a block or more away from the bayou and you will never flood.

Your husband will have a quick morning trip down Eldridge, and you are there.

Oh yeah, stay NORTH OF 529 in Hearthstone. South of 529 is a different section that is not as nice.

Providence is a great little secret neighborhood, near Bissonnet and Highway 6. Great houses in an established neighborhood in Fort Bend schools. Perfect for your price range. I don't remember sidewalks - but you can't have everything. Mission Bend is to the north - but I am not keen on that neighborhood - too spotty (some blocks OK - others not). Providence evidently has a strong HOA that keeps it nice. Identical homes closer to the Energy Corridor would sell for closer to $300K.

The majority of the homes in Providence were built by Royce Homes.

That info shouldn't be kept a secret.

I am not keeping it a secret - but evidently, Royce was better "back in the day" - they usually pass inspections easily in that subdivision, as opposed to the ones built later.

There's also the briarhills neighborhood, close to Terry Hershey and walking distance to Barbara Bush Elem and Westside High.

Check out Green Trails, it's near the Energy Corridor, the elementary school is Pattison, great school. In thet community, at this time there is one house under $180. Here is the link to it.

I love the location of Briarhills. The problem is an abundance of odd floor plans there. Also, multi-level floors (mostly one- story homes, but the levels go up and down for no reason). Great neighborhood if you can find a workable floor plan. They are there, you just have to comb through several odd ones.

Didn't know you couldn't link Properties anymore. shrug.

So like BO, I'll plead "DO OVER."

Try Country Village and Ashford Forest in 77077. Very nice area. In the EC, quality schools, close to or backing to Terry Hershey Park.
