How is the west University place for residence. Please suggest some good safe apartments with big 2 bedrooms or three bedroom apartments... I have two small kids age 5 and 6.5 whom I plan to send to either of the (i) West University elementary; (ii) Roberts elementary; (iii) Mark Twain elementary.

Also, please suggest which areas we should avoid if I rent an aprtment in west university place.

Try For Rent magazine online or The Apartment Guide online. West U is going to be veeeeeeeery expensive. A small 2 bedroom 1940's house runs about $400,000. Apartments are going to be priced accordingly.

Plan on high rent - you might think about renting a house. The Village at West University Apartments 3 bedrooms run over $2200 a month.

All of West U (as its called by Houstonians) is nice and you pay for that as its considered upper middle class to upper class to wealthy as far as socio-economic status goes. I went to high school near that area and had family that owned a house in West U. I am extremely familiar with that, Southside, Bellaire and River Oaks. Its more like a neighborhood instead of a part of town.

I believe West U elem is magnet or perhaps Roberts is...you didn't say why you sending them to those schools in particualr. If they are, you can live anywhere in Houston and commute them to school. If you are desiring them to go to those schools b/c you have heard good things, and they are not magnet, you will have to live in the area as HISD requires it. And they will ask for more than one form of proof such as a utility bill and license.
Poe Elementary, as well as River Oaks, I think are magnet schools. I know River Oaks is, for sure. Magnet schools offer specialized programs (ie, arts or sciences) to children that are not directly from the area surrounding the school. Usually the only way to get into them is to test into them or audition. I had to audition when I attended one for middle school in Houston. Call HISD for info.

Safe area that isn't too far from West U: Montrose but its not really "family friendly"
But all the places I listed above a safe. But rememember, safe is relative and no one can guarantee your safety.
