Lake Tahoe is an easy trip (via Reno and then drive). Snow is pretty consistent there, and there are a ton of rentals there.

colorado, it will be hard to find accommodation but if you can, go for it. we have a friend who lives outside denver and we use their house every other x-mas. last yr we took my son on the "santa" train through royal gorge. it was like $65 per adult and kids where free. it was great. then there is estes park, rocky mountain national park has an sled area you can go in an sled for like $20 total (that is national park admission and lasts a week)

there is sooooo much to do there

Whistler, Canada. My favorite mountain town on earth, and home of the 2010 Olympics. Considered the best skiing in North America, but a great village with outstanding shopping and dining, and tons of kid activities. Fly to Vancouver, then make the 90 minute drive north. [Mod cut - advertising]
