For my internship I was offered, I will be making $75k a year. Will I be able to support myself in Uptown/Medical center? Are there any near-by suburbs that would be easier or would a temporary apt. be cheaper? I Figured native houstonians would know much more than a native Phoenician

$75K can go a pretty long way here. I wish I was making that much.

Do you want to live in the city or the suburbs? As far as renting goes, depending on how much you feel like spending, you can just about name where you want to live.

Well, It's a pharmacy internship at Memorial Hermann on Fannin. I've found some nice/cheaper places in Montrose and Upper Kirby. How's the living here?

Oh yea, I kind of want a high rise condo/apt. But There doesn't seem to be much of this for an affordable price in this part of town.

I made it in that area on 40K (even less when I was a student), I'm sure you will do fine.

Not a problem, look into Midtown or the Med Center areas for rentals if you wont be here long term.

Unless you have some questionable habits, 75,000 would be plenty in Manhattan much less any part of Houston.

a pharmacy internship (you mean residency) for 75k? I thought those don't go any higher than 50k

Even at $50K you should have no problem making it, and living in a highrise if you want.

Houston High Rises For Rent | Houston High Rises Apartments | High Rises in Houston For Lease

I'm seeing a couple sub-$1K/mo listings for downtown high rises, one of them is at the Houston House Apartments which is just a couple blocks from a light rail station that will get you to Hermann. That's definitely doable if you're making $50K-$75K.

You should be able to find a really nice place with 75k. I could support myself, partying and bills for ~ $1500/month living in the Med Ctr. I can think of a couple of apartments/mid/high rises. The traffic isn't too bad in the areas surrounding the med ctr, not in my experience. You should look at the Valencia - it is bang on the light rail at SmithLands stop which is where a lot of med ctr people park and ride the light rail. A little further away would be apartments on Holly Hall (San Melia, San Marin, to name a few.) There are a couple of places on Kirby and Main too. Most of these apartments have medical professionals/students so they have a young vibe to them. Good luck with the move!
