Actions have consequences. Red light cameras are civil events, so the only consequence left to the governing body is a fine.

It's like saying parking meters are a lazy way to generate revenue. Cities want parking spaces to turn over, so they put meters in place. Meters have no effect unless there is a limit, limit determined by money. Go over the limit, they have to have a way to "punish" you, hence a fine.

As much as you may think, fines are not the reason. Fines are simply a consequence.
Yeah yeah yeah...

You are free to believe that cities install these cameras to improve traffic safety vs. generate revenue. Not worth arguing over.

I didn't get the ticket by the way... it was a family member (who I agree after seeing the video was clearly violating the law). I know better to never run a red light... for my own safety and that of others, NOT because of a camera.

Yes, but how much was the ticket? I think that's what I'm most concerned about...
I received a ticket about a year ago for making a right on red at 59 and Wilcrest...fine was $75.00. When you receive the letter there is a picture of the offense and a link to a website where you can watch the video feed of the offense. You can also make your payment online. The offense does not go on your public record so there is no adverse affect on your insurance. Hope this helps.

Thanks for responding on that -- I tried to find what we paid, but couldn't remember which card we used to pay on-line.

And to all who say "I would never run a red light"...we all have moments where we slip up, sheesh! It was 8:30 on a Tuesday night, and there was no one even at the intersection. I honestly don't believe I ran a red light, but I do know the camera's went off.

Do you think the fine for right on red would be different than left on red?

I assume the fine for running a red light would be the same no matter what the direction....straight, right, left..

The OP has nothing to worry about if the camera went off and the light was green. Happened to me a couple of times, no problems. I'm guessing these $75 fines are paying $9/hr for a person to look at the picture, look up info via the plate #, and then stuff the envelope with a ticket if the evidence is not in the driver's favor. Or discard if the shot is taken while the light is green.

Obviously I'm being sarcastic, but the point is... freedom is not unlimited. If no one ever ran red lights, we wouldn't need cameras. But having seen a T-bone red-light-running accident, as far as I'm concerned, bring 'em on.
