Can anyone recommend a reputable company on replacing a window glass...probably 4 ft X 6 ft?
Ran errands Sat. morning...came home and went upstairs to change clothes....this window is in the front of the house and sits right by the stairs. Window was fully intact.
Went outside to the backyard...puttered around...about 2 hrs. later, came back inside and went up the stairs, to find this window shattered. It's double paned and only the outside pane is broken. I mean in a bazillion pieces. Safety glass, so it stayed together. High up on the window you can see where something hit...a inch round circle...that piece is lying between the 2 panes. Husband is thinking BB gun or something! Couldn't find anything in the garden below.
Does the entire window need to be replaced? Or can they just replace the 2nd pane? Have a call into USAA now...I was hoping they could recommend a window glass company as well.

I'm not sure, but I think when it's a doulbe pane window you have to replace the whole window so you don't have a "seal" problem in the future. Who installed the windows for the builder? Who makes the windows?

PS- that sucks. Sounds like baseball to me.

Have no idea who made the windows, but have already been in touch with MasterPiece builders. He only has contractors who install full framed windows, don't do the replacements. And of course, Ins. will not cover it...not anywhere near our deductable.

If it is a sealed unit, the entire section of window has to be replaced. We have friends who had to have multiple low e windows replaced last year due to some bored kids and their rock collection. They used Bobbitt Glass on W Gray, which might be a bit too far away from you.

PS, it was quite pricey, so I'm sorry for your loss!

I was afraid of that. I was just reading basically the same info...double paned would have to be replaced because of the seal.
Waiting on a call now from a glass company.
Why is that, you always have to wait for a call back??? No one ans. the phone anymore when it comes to service!

I second Hou-Tex Glass and Mirror. They have reglazed numerous windows for me and always have done a great job.

As a business owner, this drives me crazy, makes the whole construction field look bad.
