A multitude of employees are scheduled to lose their jobs starting next month, but some don't even know. One person was laid off and only got a few days notice. If you don't have direct patient care your job is not safe.

I also used to think nursing was a recession proof career. In this economy, no job is 100% secure. I have been at hospitals (Georgia) where they laid off 200 nurses in one day. I have been at hospitals that closed down on the same day they told the employees (Alabama). I have seen nurses changed from hourly to salary, had their pay set for 32 hrs with no overtime and no call back pay (Alabama). Hospitals are on hiring freezes (mostly for new grads) and I know RNs that finished school in December 2008 and still have no jobs (all over the country).

If they help my family & friends get through cancer, I don't care how much money they waste.

I work at MDACC and your post is incorrect. We have hired a multitude of new grads (GN) this year. However, in hiring GNs, you must balance your workforce with experienced RNs and GNs. You may want to reapply. PM me your info and resume.
