We are thinking of moving to Channelview, I know the area but we have been gone over 10 yrs, I lived in Pasadena from 68 to 97. So how is the crime and whatnot now? Are the CV schools good? I graduated Deer Park and I know it used to be a top rated school.

Our other choice is New Braunfels, I know NB is a nice place to live, jobs are not really an issue either place, but its nice to have the options available in the Houston area. Finding a place to rent in NB may be an issue, me being on section 8, there are not many choices there.

We just want a decent place to raise the kids without having to carry around a handgun or worry about being killed.

Its seems like a nice Neighborhood, close to Belt 8, the house is on Hidden Castle. Yes my wife speaks Spanish well. Tough? No I'm not, I'm beat up and old, been cut on by too many doctors.

NB does seem the better choice, I also didn't mention, I have a friend in Deer Park whom I've known 40 yrs. This is the toughest decision I've ever faced.

Why not live in Deer Park or the south part of Pasadena then? Another alternative is Channelview along Beltway 8, maybe closer to Humble. Humble has better schools than Channelview w/ a brand new high school being built along Bltwy 8.

We can't find any Section 8 homes in Pasadena or Deer Park, there are quite a few in Humble, but further N, than Belt 8, the house we are looking at is right off Woodforest and Normandy.

That immediate area isn't all that bad crime wise but as for the schools... yeah, you're probably better off towards Humble or south Pasadena.

south of I-10 near the Beltway and then in some areas to the west aren't as safe and some of that can filter in to some of the commercial areas in that general area, so keep that in mind.

Also be aware that you should make sure you keep renter's insurance in that area as it flooded badly during Allison (area in general can't speak of specific houses).

Renter's Insurance does not cover flood damage. You have to also have a flood policy from FEMA. If this is a concern, please call a certifed flood agent and get this coverage in place. Most of my clients only pay $100 to $150 for the year for the flood coverage for their contents.
