Im looking for a 2+ bedroom home to rent with a yard and a garage. I know that is pretty plain, but thats all my girlfriend and I need. No kids, 1 dog. We are wanting to live close to water. Galveston is to far, so how are the areas of La Porte, Seabrook and Texas City and areas in between? We are in our mid 20s and my job pays very well so i can afford up to 1500 a month. We have also been looking at the Montrose area. Also if you could tell me what parts of Houston have older homes. Not a huge fan of cookie cutter subdivision homes, but not ruling it out. We are moving from Jacksonville FL, so commuting is something we are very used to. Hows Lake Houston area??

Eastwood 77023 or Meadowcreek Village 77017 both both have decent homes in your price range

I dont mean to be ignorant, but I have lived in New Orleans and arent the "wards" usually a higher crime area? Looks like Eastwood is in the 2nd ward. Meadowcreek looks nice.

Crosby / Huffman is a pretty good area. There are a few leases available in Newport subdivision. Check out HAR. That is like a 5-10 minute drive to Channelview on Highway 90. There have been some undesirables moving into Newport in the past few years. There was a recent wave of car break-ins and stolen rims/tires. Pretty sure the people who stole these live in the neighborhood. There is also Lake Shadows but nothing is for lease. I saw a house for rent the other day though but it's not listed on HAR.

Welcome to Houston. I loved living in Jacksonville when I was there. Rule out Texas City. Since you both are young, you might want to consider something off of I-10 in the Heights or along the Washington corridor if you decide you want to be in town (better commute than Montrose). If you want to be a bit more suburban, Seabrook would be a good spot as it has a nightlife over in Kermah. The commute would be up 146 to the ferry or the 2 bridges (both a bit out of the way). If you want suburban and no nightlife, Summerwood or Newport, maybe Spanish Cove along Lake Houston might interest you.
