No joke, I needed to pick up some dog toys at Target yesterday. Did a drive buy of the parking lot and decided not to brave it. A zoo.

I was in Memorial City Mall three Sundays ago and it was very busy. Then a week ago Tuesday I visited a Kingwood friend and we went up to the Woodlands Mall, where I'd not been before. I wouldn't say there was heavy pedestrian traffic (midweek and poor weather), but in Chico's the salesgirl said they were having a very good season. "This is the Woodlands," she said by way of explanation. There always are people with plenty of discretionary income, and I guess they are spending it there?

But I do agree that more and more people are shopping online!

Made my way over to Fairmont today....parking lots were chock full, even with the foggy weather.

That is what makes Galleria so unique, it attracts all types of demographics and level of classes .If the store only catered to the rich, it just wouldn't be the same and I doubt it still be exisiting today. The most famous malls in the world all have a few cheap stores.

The Best Buy at Fairmont was insane with lines going around and around. Just came from there. The parking lot is a zoo too.

It's better to go to a lively erotic store in the Galleria than going to a dead mall at the end of town.

The Galleria may have stores for all demographics but I would hardly say it caters to all demographics. It has a relative few low priced stores to get everyone in but the majority of stores cater to those with money and travelers with money (or those with a lot of credit card debt). Their goal is to make themselves the premier shopping destination in Houston - if they cater to all demographics too heavily - they become just another mall.

Right, and when all outsiders hear is how "upscale" the Galleria is, it is disappointing the first time you go there if it is too much like every other mall. My first impression was to be a bit surprised that the stores weren't as universally upscale as I thought they would be. But I think we have a whole other thread on that!
