Hello all,

My husband and I are moving from Perth (Western Australia) to Houston in November. We were looking to rent an apartment around the Westchase area (near husband's place of work, until we get used to the area). We are now thinking of bringing our 2 dogs with us and I was wondering if there are many house rentals around that area (with medium-large yards)? Alternatively, could anyone recommend how to best find dog friendly house rentals?

Also, are there any Aussies out there living in Houston that have transported pets who could recommend a particular company or provide any advice?

Thanks,
Vanessa

Vanessaev--don't have answers to all of your questions, but wanted to keep you bumped so others would see your post, and hopefully have advise..

I know that homes with yards that allow pets do exist, because that is the situation with our Conroe home, and the tenants who lease it (they have a yellow lab...very sweet dog)

Good luck, and hope this helps!

I would look for apartments off Richmond, in between Wilcrest and Dairy Ashford. The ones closer to the Beltway are kind of dumpy. House wise I'd look north of Westheimer.

Thanks all for your replies.

I found some good looking homes with nice big yards using HAR (great resource this). I guess the best thing for me to do is to contact the agents and see if they allow pets.

I used to work with a lady from melbourne who moved to houston with her husband and dog. The found plenty of houses willing to rent to them. As long as you have a good job, there shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not sure if this is your first time moving outside australia, but the one thing she always complained about was that utilities and other services charged huge deposits because she was an expat and they viewed her as a risk to flee the country without paying.

After a year or so they were able to get at least most of the deposits back, but it was a huge amount of money to have to front right after moving.
