My wife was suppose to fly into Houston on Thursday and meet with a realtor and look at some houses, as we are being transfered in the Spring.

I'm guessing this is probably not a good week to do this. I'm telling her to wait about a month, does that sound about right?

Call your agent! Some areas of Houston are not badly damaged. Where as others....well every one has seen the pictures. Your agent can give you the best idea of how bad it its in the area you are looking to buy and if that area has power on yet. Check with the airlines too. I think the airports are opening today on limited schedules. Don't know how long it will take for flights to get back to normal.

Oh! and also - make sure that you have a hotel room before you even get near Houston!

I certainly wouldn't think it would be a good time to look at real estate now. I would ask the realtor you're working with to make the call on when to begin your search. Also, I hope you are working with an experienced realtor.

I think I've convinced her not to go, she's tryin gto reschedule her flight now.

Even after the hurricane, she still more excited about moving to Houston than staying here in CA.

Houston is a good town to reside. But the next week or so wouldn't be the best time to come. Residents usually have electricity and good availability of food, gasoline and air conditioning. Waiting to October or November would be better.

I totally disagree. I'm thinking about moving to Spring in a year and wish I could come down now. This way you get a good picture of where flooding occurs and how the neighborhoods can handle it. If we could we would be there tomorrow. I feel its better to see the worst and pray for the best.

I think that most people will not make their homes available for showings. Although some people in this thread have made good points on seeing the worst hit areas for flooding. Flood waters are one of the worst things that can happen to a home. It would be nice for you to see where the issues are first hand but you can get just as much information from the county GIS.

Disagree with posters who say to visit right now. You can get flood data from a realtor,. If your there un the next month you will be able to SEE where it has flooded or been damaged...it wont be pristine by any means. Why go when its tough to get around and supplies are limited.
