There is not one. In Texas, that information is only available if you go to the county seat and check the deed records.

Try Zillow.com. I believe it may pull data from county records somewhow. I'm not sure about limitations for Texas but do recall seeing previous home sale prices for properties we've checked around Houston.

My understanding is that Texas is one of the few "non-disclosure" states and this information is difficult to obtain.

Zillow is not that accurate when it comes to Texas. Texas has specific laws prohibiting publishing of sales information.

is it really anyone's business but that person and the previous owner's anyway??

don't see how it could be useful for a negotiating tool if that is what you are planning to do..... particularly if the seller has owned the house for a couple or three years or longer...... how do you know what improvements, and at what expense, the current seller has made during his ownership?? or what changes (good or bad) that the neighborhood has undergone?? you would probably be better served by asking your real estate agent to run some comps for that area.......

Ya, Zillow not much help. Will have realtor run comps. Just wanted to know if the asking price is outa line with what the house and neighborhood is worth--and what we should offer.

Well, I'm not sure past sales prices of homes are a great indicator of the current market value. If the current owner paid, 200K for a home 10 years ago, that's not going to help you out that much now. The home coule very well be worth twice that much now, OR, it might be worth the same, depending on market conditions.

Look at comparable homes on the market right now and see if their asking price is in line.

And yes, agents can get the info off the MLS if you have one.

It doesn't matter how much they paid, its how much the house is worth. Get it appraised if you don't like their asking price. Also, look at what the other houses in that area are priced. www.har.com to do that.
