Sure it matters how much they have paid, and when. Gives the buyer a clue if there may be negotiating room on their asking price. Along with that, the buyers agent can provide "SOLD" information in the area.

Quick note: Don't go to Zillow to see how much the house is worth. Our house was asking $14K more than we paid, but according to Zillow the asking price was $9K under its worth. No, we didn't get a great deal - Zillow's formulas don't work in neighborhoods where people have owned their homes for 15 years or more (ish).

That being said, if the home was purchased since Zillow came out, it will tell you what the home was worth (with a semi-wide variation) at the time of the last sale.

Otherwise your realtor is it b/c Texas is a non-disclosure state.

The price of the home is going to be where supply equals demand not where the previous supply equaled demand years ago.

Sure, I guess knowing the seller paid 180 10 years ago might help if they are asking 300 in your mind, but not really. They are going to sell at the highest possible price, just as you are going to buy at the lowest possible price regardless of what they did before.
