My family (I have two elementary aged kids) and I am considering a relocation from Dallas to Houston. The job would be in Missouri City and we are looking for a home up to 525,000. in a nice community that is close by. Any suggestions??

For that price range, you should definitely be looking at a larger lot community within Sienna Plantation (within the Missouri City ETJ).

Here's a good link to use:
Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation

Click on "Find a Home", type in an area code such as "77459" (that's just for example, not my recommendation one way or another) and start looking. (I like the "Map Search" function. You can bring that up, click on "Show Listings", and move from house-to-house and area-to-area).

Hopefully, later this week, all those homes out there won't be waterlogged as Storm Ed (I can't spell that other name Edwardo or whatever) is moving in that direction and is *"forecast" to pass close to or right over that area (at least last time I looked).

*As with any tropical storm things change, Ed may decide to turn back and hit New Orleans or head toward Rockport or just sit out there and die out. So, until those storms are gone to New Mexico or Ohio or wherever they end up and die, I heed Yogi's advice: "It ain't over till it's over".

Use Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation

Look in 77459; specific neighborhoods you'd probably like would be First Colony, Riverstone, Sienna.

If it doesn't have to be new built...look at Greatwood (1995-2004)...zip 77479. Sunny

You shouldn't have any problems. Find a couple zip codes in the area, and/or use the map feature on www.har.com to search for homes.
