With possibly moving to the Spring/Tomball area on the radar, my wife and I are trying to find the availablity of outdoor activities. Mostly cheap ones. Where we live now, we have city hiking/biking trails about 10 minutes away, a Nature Preserve 15-20 minutes away, and an arboretum 5 minutes away. Only the nature preserve charges and it's only $5 a person. What's available that's fairly close to that area. We really enjoy hiking, we're looking at possibly getting into off-road biking, and I love fishing and maybe canoeing/kayaking (if I can afford to buy one one of these days).

All of the above is easily available...but the nearest arboretum is a little further than 5 minutes, maybe 20 minutes. The county has all sorts of parks and bike trails especially in the Spring area. There is also Mercer Arboretum in Spring area. Conoeing/kayaking can be done in Spring creek or the SanJac River (I prefer Armand Bayou on the south side). Plenty of golf courses. The actual nature preserve in that area is not open to the public yet, I don't think but could be mistaken.
