I lived in NYC and NJ most of my life, and while people out here of different races get along for the most part, there is definitely a feel of segregated neighborhoods. It is hard to find a good balance of a little bit of everything if you catch my drift. Statistically you may see a place that is like 30%white, 30% black, 30% hispanic, but they all live in their own neighborhoods. Is it like this is Houston? I have been hearing nothing but good things about Houston, and my girl's mother is from Houston and she says its fairly segregated. If there are some diverse neighborhoods, i would love to know about them. I am puerto rican and cuban, and i wonder how me and my family would fit in out there. Just curious.... any info is appreciated. Thanks

I think it is more segregated around socioeconomics. Facts are facts, you have to be in the higher income brackets to live in the nicer areas, and as a percentage there are more Asian and Whites than Hispanics and Blacks in those higher brackets.

I was going to say the same thing. Household income dictates where a family lives much more than race or ethnicity.

really? why do you want that?
another reason certain people clump together is church, availability of ethnic food.
30/30/30/10 mix is only probably found at the movie theatre in west houston

Sugar Land is extremely diverse culturally but likely not so much economically since the median income is high.

Our neighborhood (Clear Lake) has mainly white, Middle Eastern & Asian (Chinese, Indian, etc) people. There are a few blacks & Hispanics (namely Mexicans) here and there but not very many. Avg home price about $200k. My old neighborhood (Webster) had a mix of everything you can think of. Avg home value $120k. Apartment complexes in both areas are generally like this. I'd question considering the far NE and E sides of town, but for the most part everyone has been living together for quite a few decades without many issues.

There doesn't have to be exact even distribution, just a nice mix would be good. I think i kid growing up in a diverse environment will be better off than a kid who grows up in a place where everything is the same. There is a big world out there and to get a taste of everything in a city would be good for kids growing up in my opinion. I have a family, so this is not about dating or hookin up with every chic in sight, this is about feeling comfortable where you are at, and enjoying life. Thanks for the info on sugarland, i will look into that a litte bit more. That is what i am looking for, cultural diversity, not economically because rich people and poor people on the same block just don't mix well, just ask the police. I am not rich, i am not poor, i am barely even middle class, i am just surviving with some change leftover.

If you are barely middle class...you may not be able to afford Sugarland. That is more for the firm middle class to upper middle class crowd and above. I guess it is all what you call middle class.

I was just kidding. but see things from the other side of the spectrum. The good values and traits from whereever people originated from disappear when it blends fully with the american culture. I'm guessing youre american raised so you might not understand what i'm talking about. foreigners think a little differently and they want their kids to equally have an opportunity to know their roots, and some old world show of respect atleast.
if i'm in a japanese restaurant and do not see one person bow at someone i know i'm in just a westernized knock off
The family unit support structure (in america, someone from the same country would do) is an important piece too. If the parents arent the coolest in a kid's eyes, the cool responsible uncle/cousin/etc is the backup plan
