Hi,

We came down to TX to look around the Clear Lake Area and ended up liking Friendswood the best in terms of schools, location, houses available.
What is concerning me is that, b/c we are of Asian Indian decent....are we going to fit in or be excluded? My husband and I were both born and raised here and we know how hard it was growing up being the only Indian person in town. People were not nice, I even had kids throwing rocks at us when we got off the bus!
Mind you this is 20+ years ago!
At the same time, I want my kids to have a diverse group of friends and not just Asian Indian friends. I love having a variety of friends and want the same for my kids.

Honestly, am I setting my children up to being picked on and excluded by moving there?

I only ask this, bc when I look at preschools (some of the best in town) I saw only ONE indian child in 2 schools

Thanks,

The Patels

Houston is so international, I can't imagine you would have things like people throwing rocks at you!

No, you will be fine.

Thanks. I really just liked Friendswood homes much better than the homes we saw in Clear Lake. But having my kids have to go through what I went through in Grade school was throwing me off.

You're from "here?" Where is that? Friendswood?

I can't imagine you'd be that out of place there.

The kids in grade school might find it strange if they DIDN't have kids of other ethnicities in the class with them. They will probably be curious, but that is natural. Kids are always curious about everything.

When I was in school in Central Jersey in the mid 80's was when all this stuff happened. I don't know if anyone ever recalls the "dot busters" as they called themselves. Not fun. But now you go NJ and Indians are EVERYWHERE! LOL. Just when I was growing up not many in our town.

I'm glad everyone thinks that things will be fine. Makes me feel better.

have you been watching the news? seems Friendswood is not so friendly to non-Christians. You didn't mention your religious affliliation, but I don't think this speaks well of a welcoming environment. I realize there are plenty of people in Friendswood who are more open-minded, but this recent story tells me there are enough boneheads in Friendswood that I would never consider moving there, and I at least look the part.
