Hi CD peeps,

We're moving from Gilbert AZ to Katy/Cypress this summer. Looking at houses in Bridgeland, Towne Lakes, Woodcreek Reserve, and Cross Creek (Fulshear). We work from home, so never have to commute into Houston except maybe a couple times a week in the evenings against traffic in the HOV lane.

For those of you who are familiar with both cities, which one do you love more and why?

budget for house is $600k to $800k (the taxes on those houses make me weak in the knees, but I have to remind myself there's no state income tax).

I like the houses in Bridgeland and Towne Lakes more than anything I've found (online) in Katy for my budget. But the value of a house won't be the only deciding factor. I like the Cypress school hours and schedule more. But something about Katy feels more comfortable for me.

I doubt anyone would be familiar with the youth climb teams at both Momentum Katy and InSpire Rock Cypress, but if someone out there has worked with both teams, your info would be tremendously helpful.

Anyway, enough about me. I really want to hear why YOU like one place more than the other.

You should consider Cinco Ranch it’s a more established desirable part of Katy and you can find plenty of nice homes in that price range. The area around bridgeland is very country and will take years of development

Thanks! Great to know about the country setting of Bridgeland.

One generic, suburban mpc is much like another. Im sure you will do fine either way. Be aware of property taxes as they vary by community and can be quite high.

Actually our old baby sitter is a manager/climbing instructor at the Momentum in Katy. I’ve been there a couple of times - it’s a fantastic facility. The first one in Texas (I believe) that can offer a training wall for the olympics. Don’t know anything about Inspire Rock in Cypress.

I wouldn't say Bridgeland is in a country setting, especially not towards Fry Rd. You should drive around to determine what you'll prefer. I think all options mentioned are fine and it'll be down to how you feel about the areas. If Katy feels more comfortable to you, go with that.

Hopefully someone who has lived in both areas can come along with concrete reasons as to why they like one over the other.

5 yrs in Cross Creek. Bridgeland and CCR, IMHO, are the two most similar MPCs on the West side. Were exurban, rapidly filling in w/ commercial (CCR HEB, the Wal-Mart @ 1093/1463), brand new schools w/ CCR JH and HS opening in 19/20.

CCR has 10 and Westpark commute options, Bridgeland maybe less w/ 290, but you don't care about that.

CCR is in a city so has Fulshear PD, but that comes at a tax cost.

If you are going to use I10 to commute into town, Katy can be a pain.
Cypress has Bridgeland going for it, going to expand into a larger MPC like The Woodlands, so if you can wait for things to be built out, it will be nice and new.
