Before I fall for some fanciful exterminator advertising, can someone please give me advice about exterminator companies? I'm in Sugar Land.

I know the previous tenants had a dog and I just saw fleas here. We don't have pets and there is no way we had fleas in our furniture before now. So I need to take care of this fast.

I would also like to do whatever I can to keep roaches and ants away. This house backs up to a vacant field, if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Does your landlord know about this?

We are filling out the move-in report today and we will tell her about the fleas tomorrow. We figured she doesn't want to hear about fleas on Easter (we just discovered them this morning).

We've already told her about the mouse droppings we found a couple days ago and she approved the hiring of a rodent exterminator. He set out traps but didn't catch anything, which is a good sign, I would think.

I just hope she's willing to pay/help pay for this. Getting rid of fleas can be a pain, but it's easier if you don't have pets.

Whether the landlady helps to pay or not, should I hire a company to come do a flea bomb thing? I don't have previous experience with fleas so I'm unsure about the best strategy. Is there a "best" approach?

You sure they weren't roach droppings? You might want prevention for both rodents and roaches. You can try flea bombs. A top of the line Dyson vacuum cleaner can suck everything you can imagine out of the carpet, too.

You can buy the flea bombs at Wal-Mart and do it yourself. No need to hire anybody. Just follow the instructions or you could blow the place up, and that might be a problem.

As long as we are on bugs - anyone had experience getting red wasps out of the attic? Got some somewhere - haven't found where they are coming in or nesting for that matter - the attic has a lot of inaccessible to humans areas.............. They are up there though and we are getting about 1 or 2 per week making it into the house.

Topaz - sorry to hear about your troubles. Hang in there.

Also, hope this doesn't sound retarded, but what do mouse and roach droppings look like?

No big deal...I'm sure I can win the war against fleas, roaches, and mice.

Here is one source for pictures of droppings:

There are probably more pictures all over the Web - ick!
