Hello! I am a 23 year old single male moving from MN to Houston in July, looking for an apartment around Montrose/Lower Westheimer. I want to be close (like 5 min or less drive) to the Iron Yard coding bootcamp which I'll be attending (right next to U of St. Thomas). I have heard there are good and bad parts of Montrose, but I'm not 100% on which is which. I was thinking somewhere on the east side.

I do wanna be close to the popular coffee shops/bars in order to meet people (and probably a part time gig), but not where it's too sketchy. idk if there's any immediate parks nearby but I do want to join a Tennis group as well. I would like a 1br apt <$800 ideally but I can go up to ~$900 or studio if need be. I've browsed on HotPads a little, they have some nice looking places right near the campus so far.

Any advice/other resources would be a great help!

I think your best bet are rental listings on sites like Hotpads, Zillow, Trulia, etc. Most likely will be duplex style apartment or smaller apartment complexes (< 10 units). Doubt many bigger apartment complexes will be able to meet your rent requirements, even for a studio, but there shouldn't be any problem finding a random room / part of a house for rent in that area.
